Recently read books.

Here is where I read something, and try to explain why I liked or disliked it, because of my travel schedule and work, I usually end up listening to these through audible.com, but I only ever get unabridged… what a waste to listen to a “Reader’s Digest” version of a good book.

  • The Odd Thomas series – Dean Koontz

At the time of this writing, this is a series of three books…  Odd Thomas, Forever Odd and Brother Odd.   If you are familiar with Koontz’s past work, you will be pleased with these.  The stories are a pleasant change from his usual style, and I could not put them down.

  • Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas – Hunter S Thompson

What can I say… you got to read this.  If even half of his exploits in this book are true, then it was amazing that he ever survived.  You also walk away from this with the realization that Johnny Depp was perfect for his character…  only Thompson could have done it better

  • Scourge: The Once and Future threat of Smallpox – Johnathan Tucker

This will open your eyes.  Discusses the history of Smallpox and it’s uses and remedies to where we are now with it, and the potential threat that it still poses to us as a weapon.

  • American Spartans: The US Marines – A Battle history from Iwo Jima to Iraq  – James Warren

Excellent read…  But you have to like history, and you have to like military history.   The author writes very visually, and you walk away feeling like you have seen some of what he is describing.  With work and all, it took me a few days to get through it, but I enjoyed it.

  • A Brief history of time – Stephen Hawking.

What can I say… it’s Stephen Hawking.  Supassed only by God in his understanding of the universe… Michu Kaku follows a close third behind Stephen.  ;-)

I do not care who you are.  What religion, sex, color… The Onion discriminates against all… and I love it.  They pull no punches and are willing to make everyone look foolish.  The take the serious world, hold a carnival mirror up to it, then bash it in the face with the mirror.  The link above is for the site, but I bought the book and love reading through it.

The Following is a friendly entry as it is not my type of reading… I am sure that it is good work, but there are certain things I just cannot get into.  I am listing this because I know the author and believe in supporting those people that I know and local talent.

Besides… isn’t there a rule that if you know the person, you are supposed to get a free autographed copy at some point???  <wink wink, nudge nudge> :-)
